Well we had a great night for racing tonight, with just under 80 riders and 19 motos! We’ve been fortunate enough to have such great weather lately to get our season off to a spectacular start! Again, some terrific racing with lead changes down the 2nd and 3rd straight, even all the way down to the final corner. Way to go riders! It seems alot of those participating in the clinics have really stepped up their game, and their skills are starting to show.

Thanks to everyone that help get the races going smoothly with watering the track, concession and finish line. Not to mention the corner marshals who had to pick up a rider or two. Everyone was able to dust themselves off and continue to battle the next round!

We had an unfortunate incident this evening where a rider flipped the gate and was pinned as it dropped. Luckily, the way he fell enabled his protective gear to prevent the gate from slamming down full force, and was quickly pulled from underneath. A HUGE thank you to those that came to his aid quickly and administered first aid. We were lucky to have Colleen Botchar on hand tonight to quickely help him and he was able to walk away with minor cuts and bruises. Just a reminder to all parents to ensure your rider is aware of, and respects, the potential danger, and should a rider inadvertently go over before the gate drops, they should try fall forwards and try to roll it out down the start hill. Under any circumstances, do not attempt to catch yourself on the top lip of the gate, as the gate starter may not have the chance to stop the gate from dropping. The gates are safe, however, accidents can happen at a blink of an eye, so please keep that in mind. That said, our new safety gate will eliminate any chance of injury should a rider flip the gate. Im sure after tonight we are all anxiously awaiting it…we will keep you all posted when it will be arriving!

Reminder that the exec team will be attending the BMX Canada National Race this weekend in Chilliwack, so there will not be racing this sunday. Practice will resume monday evening, weather permitting. If you’ve got nothing on the go this weekend, I encourage anyone to head out and watch the races!

Weather is looking fantastic yet again for tonights racing! Signups at 6-630pm. Call the hotline to preregister if you’re prepaid and avoid the lineup! 604-514-BMX1. Leave your name, age/class, and plate #. Dont forget we’ve got your district numbers on hand if you want to purchase a langley bmx plate. $10 for small/mini, and $15 for large. Price  includes your plate number as well.

What a great morning for racing! The sun was out in full force, and was starting to get hot out,  but that didnt stop our riders from racing. Again, some great moves and passes in todays motos is always exciting to watch, a couple spills here and there, but that’s part racing! Thanks riders for coming out, and the parents that helped with corners, concession and staging.

After racing we were able to get the track cleaned up a bit. Thank you to all those that stayed and helped, and Geoff McIntyre and Craig Robarts for helping water the track and manning the weedwackers  this hot afternoon! Hope everyone had great Sunday morning, weather is looking great for practice tomorrow! Reminder we will have an extra practice after the clinic on Tuesday from 7-8 for those wanting to get in more laps before this weekends Nationals.

With his 10th win last week, Logan Jones earns his move up to intermediate level. Congrats Logan!  A reminder for the parents to keep track of their riders wins, once they hit the next level proficiency, we will award them their well deserved certificates.

Just a heads up after this Sunday’s racing, we will be having a work party to help tidy up the track area a bit. Probably a bit of weed whacking, lawn mowing, rock plucking etc. Possibly be repairing some vandalized fencing as well. We’ll have the grill out with refreshments for anyone that would like to stay and help while kids can ride the skatepark or do more laps on the track! All help is always greatly appreciated!

Also, as there is a National Race coming up next weekend, we will not be having Sunday racing on May 12th as most if not all the exec team will be attending the race in Chilliwack. That said, if there are any parents out there that don’t plan on attending the race in Chilliwack and would like to ‘shadow’ the officials at our track and see whats involved in getting a race going, then we’d love for you to give it a try! We’re looking for a ‘back up’ team that can run races if/when exec is away for such events.

For those that are unfamiliar with the National Race Series, its a race series where the best 5 National Race scores are counted plus the Grand Nationals. There are 7 in Canada. 5 in BC and 2 in Ontario. Essentially, each Race weekend is consisted of a Friday Pre-Race, and the Saturday/Sunday are the National Races (2). Any and all riders are able to participate race this series. Expert level riders  accumulate points for the coveted CNAG ( Canadian National Age Group) plates. These are large events with up to 400+ riders and well over 100 motos! Yes there is even strider/half track races! You will see riders from all over BC, Ab, Ontario as well as many Americans will also come up to add more excitement and competition for our local riders. Here is the National Race Schedule for 2013. If you havent seen what a really big race can look like, come check it out next weekend! The atmosphere is spectacular and you can feel the adrenaline pumping in the air.

Close to 80 riders and 19 motos, including the fun pit bike racing, we were able to get all the motos out before the sun went down and the bugs came out. Thanks to the volunteers that kept things running smoothly, and for everyones patience while watiting for motos to get posted. We’re getting a 2nd computer to aid with new rider registration. Don’t forget to get your prepaid punch cards to get 2 free races and avoid the lineup!
