ABA Provincials- May 30-31 in the Interior

A bunch of Langley racers made their way to the Interior the May 30th & 31st weekend to pick up the ABA Provincial Series races.

Who ordered Summer? Holly cow, it was HOT out there. 18 deg. C in Penticton at 7:00 AM, climbing to around 35 deg. C by the time the mains were being run. Langley riders had some good luck, some bad luck, and some good learning experiences.

Young Jordan McCory broke his arm in Penticton; he was looking very fast. Heal up fast Jordan, and come back strong!

The Wulff family all suffered some heat stroke at various points during the weekend, but still managed some strong finishes in between being sick.

Riley Wulff raced a ¾ plate for the weekend in 8 Intermediate and placed:
3rd Penticton
5th Kelowna (whilst being sick)
1st Vernon —- YEAH RILEY !

Michelle battled the other moms in Penticton and Kelowna, taking a 3rd and 5th.

Bradley did not make his mains on Saturday in Penticton, and suffering from heat stroke Michelle pulled him out of racing for Kelowna and Vernon. Michelle herself spent Monday through Wednesday in hospital getting treatment for dehydration.

Check out the sick bay on Sunday in Vernon!

Mike Meade’s 3 race weekend was summarized as a fun time riding BMX in between work in the interior and preparing for a long day on June 20th (www.r2s.ca – shameless plug). Penticton featured drawing the lane of futility in the main (7, outside), a crash in Kelowna’s Main (1 broken Uni seat post, on sheared cleat plat, one blown front tube, one festering knee wound, no major injuries or mechanicals otherwise = 1 priceless photo), and a slipped cleat in the starting gate of the Vernon Main- after drawing money 4th lane. After Vernon, Mike decided he was better of riding his road bike for some alone time instead of trekking to Kamloops for race 4.

Charles & Malcolm Kemp made Penticton, Kelowna, and Kamloops.

Malcolm is still learning that Expert presents a bigger challenge than Intermediate. Being a rookie again is tough. He was knocking on the door for each moto, but unable to qualify for the mains. In Vernon, a slipped cleat at the round 2 starting gate sealed his fate- but he looked great styling all the jumps. Great attitude Mal, and keep working hard to climb the Expert ranks!

Charles Kemp pulled in a 3rd in Penticton, and a 2nd in Vernon. Something about his legs seizing up down the 3rd stretch on the long Kelowna track during round 2 qualifying, sealing his fate Saturday night. Somebody make sure Charles eats lots of bananas during our National’s weekend.

New Langley rider Colman (Cole) Hughes, 6 Novice (#281), had a great 1st weekend racing transfer style motos: 2nd in Penticton, 1st Kelowna, and 1st Vernon. The kid has ice water running through his veins.

Finally, local BMX / rock star Mom Laura Knowles took home a series sweep: 1st in all four (yes, raced Kamloops, too). Did she have her work cut out? Darn right- the other mom’s are getting faster, and closing the gap…but Laura still rode them like she owned them.

Nice work guys!
